About This Calculator

Which is cheaper — the 12 oz bottle for $3.99 or the 1 lb bag for $4.49? This calculator normalizes both to the same base unit (oz, fl oz) so you can compare apples to apples, not ounces to pounds.

How It Works

Enter the price and quantity for each item, then choose the unit (oz, lb, g, kg for weight; fl oz, cup, pt, qt, gal, mL, L for volume). The calculator converts both to the same base unit (ounces for weight, fluid ounces for volume) and computes price per base unit for each, then shows which item is the better deal and by how much.

The Formula

pricePerBase = price ÷ (qty × factor)

price
total price for the package
qty
quantity in the chosen unit
factor
conversion factor to base unit (e.g. 16 oz/lb)

Frequently Asked Questions

What units can I compare?
Weight units (oz, lb, g, kg) and volume units (fl oz, cup, pt, qt, gal, mL, L). Both items must be in the same dimension — you cannot compare weight to volume.
What is the base unit used for comparison?
Ounces (oz) for weight comparisons and US fluid ounces (fl oz) for volume comparisons. The per-unit price is shown in these base units.
My item is priced per count, not by weight — can I use this?
Not directly. This calculator normalizes by weight or volume. For per-count items, simply divide the price by the number of items to get price-per-unit before entering.
