GPA Calculator
Calculate your GPA on a 4.0 unweighted, weighted 5.0 (AP/honors), or 100-point scale. Add any number of courses and credit hours for an accurate weighted average.
About This Calculator
Enter your courses, letter grades (or numeric scores), and credit hours to calculate your GPA instantly. Choose between the standard 4.0 unweighted scale, a weighted 5.0 scale for AP and honors classes, or a 100-point numeric scale.
How It Works
GPA is a weighted average: each course grade is converted to grade points (A=4.0, B+=3.3, …), multiplied by the course's credit hours, and summed. That total (quality points) is divided by total credit hours. Weighted GPA adds a bonus before averaging — +0.5 for honors, +1.0 for AP courses — capped at 5.0. The 100-point scale averages raw numeric scores weighted by credit hours.
The Formula
GPA = Σ(gradePoints × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)
- gradePoints
- grade converted to points (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.)
- credits
- credit hours for the course
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
- Unweighted GPA uses a 4.0 scale for all courses — an A is 4.0 regardless of difficulty. Weighted GPA adds a bonus for honors (+0.5) and AP (+1.0) courses before averaging, so it can exceed 4.0 (up to 5.0). Weighted GPA rewards taking harder classes.
- Does an A+ count as more than an A?
- On the standard 4.0 scale, A+ and A are both 4.0. Some schools distinguish them (A+=4.3), but this calculator uses the standard convention where A+ = A = 4.0.
- How do I use the 100-point scale?
- Switch to "100-Point" mode and enter each course's numeric score (0–100) instead of a letter grade. The calculator computes a weighted average of your scores by credit hours.
