Business Days Calculator
Count the working days between two dates, excluding weekends and US federal holidays. Uses the OPM 2026 federal holiday calendar with observed-weekday shifting.
About This Calculator
Find the number of business days (weekdays excluding US federal holidays) between any two dates. The 2026 US federal holiday calendar is built in, including the observed-weekday shift when a holiday falls on a weekend.
How It Works
The calculator counts weekdays between the two dates (Mon–Fri), then subtracts any US federal holidays that fall on weekdays within that range. Weekends are always excluded. The 2026 OPM holiday calendar is used, with weekend→weekday observed shifts already applied.
The Formula
businessDays = weekdaysInRange − holidaysOnWeekdaysInRange. Weekdays in range = fullWeeks × 5 + weekdaysInRemainder. Exclusive end (ISO 8601): the end date itself is not counted. source: OPM 2026 Federal Holidays.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Which holidays are excluded?
- The 10 US federal holidays for 2026 per the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) — New Year's Day, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. When a holiday falls on Saturday, the observed date is the preceding Friday; Sunday holidays are observed the following Monday.
- Does it include holidays in the end date?
- The end date is exclusive (ISO 8601 convention), so it is not counted. Only dates from the start date up to (but not including) the end date are evaluated.
- Does it support non-US holidays?
- Not in the current version — only US federal holidays are built in. International holiday calendars are planned for a future update.
