About This Calculator

Estimate your annual and per-paycheck take-home pay. Enter your income (per year, per month, or per paycheck), choose how often you're paid, and select your filing status to see your federal income tax, FICA withholding, and net pay. Uses verified 2026 federal tax brackets.

How It Works

Enter your income amount and tell us whether it's yearly, monthly, or per paycheck — the calculator converts it to your total annual income. Pick your pay frequency and filing status, and optionally add per-paycheck pre-tax deductions (401(k), health insurance) and extra withholding. We subtract the 2026 standard deduction and pre-tax deductions, apply the 2026 federal tax brackets, and add FICA (Social Security 6.2% up to the wage base, Medicare 1.45%). The result shows your total annual income and annual take-home, then breaks it down per paycheck.

The Formula

Net = Gross − Federal − SS − Medicare − Pre-tax

Pre-tax
pre-tax deductions per period (401(k), HSA, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include state income tax?
This calculator covers federal income tax and FICA only. State income tax varies significantly by state and is not included.
What is FICA?
FICA stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act. It funds Social Security (6.2% of wages up to the $184,500 wage base for 2026) and Medicare (1.45% of all wages, no cap). Higher earners also pay an additional 0.9% Medicare surtax above $200,000 (single) or $250,000 (MFJ).
What are pre-tax deductions?
Pre-tax deductions (such as 401(k) contributions, health insurance premiums, and FSA contributions) are subtracted from your gross pay before federal income tax is calculated, reducing your taxable income. They do not reduce Social Security or Medicare withholding.
Which tax year are the brackets from?
This calculator uses verified 2026 federal income tax brackets from IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32. The tax brackets are adjusted for inflation each year — for the most current information, visit irs.gov.
