A1C / eAG Calculator
Convert between A1C percentage and estimated average glucose (eAG) in mg/dL or mmol/L using the ADA-validated formula.
This tool converts between two ways of expressing the same lab value — it is NOT a diagnostic tool. Only a licensed healthcare provider can interpret your A1C in a clinical context.
About This Calculator
A1C (glycated haemoglobin) and estimated average glucose (eAG) are two ways of expressing the same measurement of average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months. This calculator converts between them using the formula validated by the ADA's ADAG study. It does not diagnose or interpret results — that is a clinical decision.
How It Works
Enter your A1C percentage to see the equivalent eAG in both mg/dL and mmol/L, or switch to eAG mode to find the corresponding A1C. Valid A1C range is 4–20%. Outside this range the formula has not been clinically validated.
The Formula
eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × A1C(%) − 46.7
- A1C
- glycated haemoglobin percentage
- eAG
- estimated average glucose
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does eAG mean?
- eAG (estimated Average Glucose) expresses your A1C result in the same mg/dL or mmol/L units used on a glucose meter, which some people find more intuitive. The two values reflect the same underlying measurement.
- What is the ADA A1C target?
- The ADA recommends A1C below 7% for most non-pregnant adults with diabetes. Targets vary by individual — your doctor sets the right goal for you based on your full clinical picture.
- Can I use this to diagnose diabetes?
- No. This tool is a unit-conversion calculator. Only a licensed healthcare provider can order, interpret, and act on A1C results in a clinical context.
